What the fuck is up with all the MNFF-related drama?

EDIT - I have reposted this entry publicly, seeing as I don't have every party involved on my flist. If you're not on my flist and have been sent a link to this entry: read it, comment if you like, but be respectful.

I'm friends with a lot of present/former mods, and there's this issue with this book that's being released under the MNFF name. A writing guide specifically geared toward the fanfic writer.

The thing is, with this whole book thing - there are clearly sides to take.

On one side, you have those mods who are (no matter how you slice it) in charge of the site, and therefore responsible with keeping it as refreshing and interesting as you can with a dying series. The book idea was a good one, in theory. It would theoretically get some money pumped into the site so we wouldn't have had to deal with so many of those shitty ads. But the timing has passed for that. You don't have the steady flow of people as you did, say, when I joined between OotP and HBP, or even that of between HBP and DH. But the thought is there, and the concern for the site. I recognise that, and I understand and respect it.

On the other hand, there's some conflict from the other former/current mods. To my understanding (and PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong, here), this book was supposed to be a group modly project, with several mods taking part. The mods thought it was in the preliminary stages of development, but Rosie (the mod who planned this whole thing) took control and finished it herself, possibly because it was taking longer than she wanted, or because the project stood a chance of stalling and falling through the cracks.

But while I do understand Rosie's concerns, I too know what it's like to be asked to take part in a project and being very excited about the idea, only to be left in the dust wondering what happened. I am, for those who don't know, referring to my shortlived musical involvement with the AudioFics.

I left MNFF for these three combined reasons: 1) I hated the end of Deathly Hallows, and it nearly ruined the series for me, 2) I knew the Gauntlet, the only reason I had for staying, wouldn't be fun without MithrilQuill guiding me, and 3) because I knew I wouldn't have a better Head of House than Jenna. Yes, there were RL complications (college, work, wanting more time with Carina) that contributed, but had it not been for all three of those reasons, I would have made it work and continued.

But do you guys want my honest opinion?

If I had stayed, I would leave now. I just . . . the childishness of all of this, the unwillingness for either side to understand the other, the bickering and namecalling . . . I'm sorry, you guys, but it needs to be fucking said. Does anyone out there besides me see that both sides are in the wrong? I understand and sympathise with both, I really do . . . but Jesus, there's a fucking limit! Fighting over whether or not MNFF will merge with a Twilight fanfic site would be a more acceptable situation for this level of immaturity!

I love you guys, but this shit is so fucking stupid.

Just stop.
